We started with supporting 3 government schools in 1 village in 2016. Over the past few years, based on the need of the area and the commitment and enthusiasm of our student volunteers every year, we have increased our support to Government schools in 15 villages.
It has been a journey of learning and growth both for Balamitra Foundation, and the schools we support. Some observations along our journey:
A new library period was introduced after our first donation of library books
Chess has emerged as a popular indoor game amongst both the girls and the boys
Primary school teachers are keeping the little ones busy with art when they arrive early to school and the little ones are excited to colour and draw when they start the school day
High schoolgirls have a lot of questions about menstrual hygiene and they opened up freely to the student volunteer ‘akkas’ who visited them in 2020
About Our Beneficiaries:
Our beneficiaries belong to Merakamudidam mandal, Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh. Most of the populace in the villages we support are daily wage labourers.
